End of season but not end of Sailing
Though the competition season has ended until August - it's not the end of sailing at Big River. The Ancient (and not so ancient) Mariners will still be sailing on Friday afternoons all through winter and some Saturday afternoons as well so come along for a social sail.
Annual Regatta report
Over 50 sports boats, catamarans, skiffs, trailer sailors and monohulls gathered at Harwood for the Annual Regatta over the weekend of the 4th and 5th March. Sailors came from as far as Lake Macquarie, Brisbane and Tamworth to join in the great sailing, fabulous food and meeting old and new friends.
The long passage race on Saturday from Harwood to Iluka was with a balmy breeze assisted by a run out tide - conditions that had everyone under control, no capsizes or breakages, an easy day out for the rescue boat crews.
That turned on its head on Sunday as the afternoon sea breeze built to a steady 15 knots for the two short course races in the club racing area. The tight racing in wavy waters had everyone on their game, and the inevitable swim for a few.
There were a lot of happy sailors after a fabulous weekend, especially the division winners:
Sports boats - Jim and Joe O'Keeffe;
Yachts/trailables - Steve Stoker and crew
Skiffs - Barry and Daniel Bradford
Cats - Phil Homan
Nacra 4.5s - Dave Bowler
Monos - Graham Hams
OK Dinghy - Mark Skelton
Laser 4.7 and Junior - Ollie Arthur-Andrews
